Walt Disney Studios is doing away with the digital copy included in Blu-ray and DVD releases, and will soon launch a new Digital Copy Plus website that streamlines digital delivery.
THR reports that, instead of accessing the digital copy from an additional disc in the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, Disney's digital copies will now be acquired directly from their website by consumers who have purchased any disc release. From there, users can watch the movie through providers such as iTunes, Amazon Instant Video or Vudu.
Said a Disney spokesman, "[Digital Copy Plus] allows for the capability to redeem the digital version of your movie on any connected device -- you no longer have to wait until you get home to insert a disc into your computer."
Disney's Digital Copy Plus website will debut on June 11, the same day the studio's Oz: The Great and Powerful is released on Blu-ray and DVD.
