Kermit interview on Canada's Studio Q, Disney expanding ESPN Wide World of Sports & First look at "The Amazing Spider Man" Pez!!

Journalist, entertainer, amphibian, Kermit the Frog is in Canada's Studio Q for a feature chat about his humble beginnings in the swamp, his partnership with Jim Henson, and his role in his latest feature film "The Muppets."
Also love that sly little "she thought it was an impostor" moment about the Lady Gaga and "himself" at the 2009 Mtv Awards!

Disney will add playing fields and other enhancements to its ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Disney officials announced the expansion plans Tuesday, saying the goal is to provide athletes with a one-of-a-kind sports experience.
Orlando television station WESH ( http://bit.ly/uaMNL5) reports the project will add 25 acres to the 270-acre complex and should be completed by early 2012. The new playing fields will be used for football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.
Officials say additional lights, digital video board and audio systems will also be part of the project.

And Comic Book Movie got their hands on what appear to be real Pez dispenser designs for tie-ins to The Amazing Spider-Man, and it gives us our first look at the part-CGI character of The Lizard, played by Rhys Ifans. Spidey is there too!

Newest Disney cruise ship to have interactive Muppets game!

Mickey and Donald will have some new company on Disney's next cruise ship: The Muppets.
Disney Cruise Line today announced one of the new interactive features aboard the forthcoming Disney Fantasy will be an adventure game starring The Muppets.

Kermit, Miss Piggie, Fozzie, Gonzo and Animal headline a Muppet cast in "The Case of the Stolen Show." The game takes cruisers around the Fantasy looking for clues in more than a dozen pieces of Enchanted Art.

Enchanted Art is artwork actually on LCD screens around the ship that magically come alive as guests stop to look at them.

The "Stolen Show" storyline has the Muppets preparing for a big show, but all sorts of items have gone missing: Kermit's banjo, Fozzie's squirting flower, Gonzo's crash helmet, Animal's drum sticks and the Swedish Chef's cleaver.

Designed for guests 9 and older, the game is a self-paced hunt to find the missing items and discover the culprit. The game features alternate endings and other random events, so you can play it more than once.

The Muppets game is just one of the interactive features that will be on the new Fantasy, many of which are also featured on its sister ship, the Disney Dream.

Enchanted Art is aboard both ships, but the more than 20 pieces aboard the Fantasy will be new including art featuring Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, scenes from "Fantasia" and Walt Disney himself animating Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto.

Fine art fans may appreciated "Pinkie Daisy," a take on the 1794 painting by Thomas Lawrence, "Sarah Barrett Moulton: Pinkie."Check out video of Pinkie Daisy here.

Other interactive features aboard the Fantasy include "Animation Magic" at the Animator's Palate restaurant, Living Characters, Magical Portholes, the Magic PlayFloor and the Skyline adults-only bar.

Animation Magic allows diners to draw a character on a special template that is then taken and actually added to an animated storyline at the conclusion of dinner.

Living Characters are a popular feature in which animated characters actually converse with the people watching them. Aboard the Fantasy, as it is on the Dream, kids in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab can interact with Crush, the sea turtle from "Finding Nemo" and Stitch, the alien from "Lilo & Stitch" as they appear on a 103-inch plasma screen. Crush also does his interactive duties at the Animator's Palate restaurant.

The restaurant itself undergoes a transformation as diners are brought to the ocean floor through the use of more than 100 wall-mounted LCD screens to make the transition. The same technology is used at Skyline to transform the view from the bar to nine "windows to the world" with panoramas to places such as Paris, London, Barcelona, Florence, Athens, Budapest and St. Petersburg.

Another technological feature on board both the Dream and Fantasy is the inside stateroom portholes, which display a real-time video view from outside the ship, but enhanced with the occassional animated visitor doing a "fly-by."

Also on board both vessels is the Magic PlayFloor at the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab. The PlayFloor is 15-foot-square grid with motion detectors that allow the children interacting with the floor to play a variety of games.

The Disney Fantasy, currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany is set for its debut voyage on March 31, 2011. The Fantasy will sail out of Port Canaveral, offering alternating seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean with stops at Castaway Cay, the line's private island in the Bahamas. The 4,000-passenger ship is a sister to the Disney Dream, also based at Port Canaveral, that debuted in January 2010 and will up the Disney Cruise Line fleet to four, with the line's two original vessels, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.
The Wonder is currently based on the Pacific Coast and the Magic will continue to sail out of Port Canavearl until Fantasy's arrival, when it will migrate to New York.way Cay.

Lost Early Oswald the lucky Rabbit cartoon discovered in UK! & Muppets at the Box office

(Reuters) - A lost Walt Disney cartoon that pre-dated Mickey Mouse has been discovered in a British film archive and will be offered for auction in Los Angeles on Dec. 14.

"Hungry Hobos" was one of 26 episodes featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a character created by Disney and cartoonist Ub Iwerks in 1927 for Universal Studios.

The first production featuring Oswald, widely considered a prototype to the more famous Mickey Mouse, was rejected by the Hollywood studio, but the second, "Trolley Troubles", kick-started a successful series.

Robert Dewar, commercial director of Huntley Film Archives, one of Britain's biggest independent film libraries, said he and colleagues found the only known surviving copy of Hungry Hobos during a routine cataloguing exercise earlier this year.

"We've got more films than you can imagine," he told Reuters, adding that only about 40,000 of the archive's 80,000 films are fully accounted for.

"We thought this one (Hungry Hobos) looked a little bit suspicious."

Amanda Huntley of the archive added: "When we checked this film we couldn't quite believe our eyes. For an archive, finding a lost masterpiece is incredible -- you just don't think it will happen to you."

Dewar said the archive intended to use the money raised by the sale to help preserve its library.

Bonhams auctioneers expect the 5 minute, 21 second film to fetch $30-40,000 when it goes under the hammer.

The character of Oswald has appeared in several guises over the years, but the significance of Hungry Hobos was that it is part of the first series associated directly with Disney.

According to Dewar, adding to the film's importance was the fact that it aired on May 14, 1928, one day before the first trial screening of Mickey Mouse. It is one of several episodes of the original series still thought to be lost.

In 1928, Disney asked Universal for more money but his request was turned down, prompting his decision to part ways with the studio.

Iwerks went with him, and they developed their most famous creation, Mickey Mouse, a version of Oswald.

"Oswald is a proto-Mickey," said Dewar. "If you see him, you see the same shape of the head, the ears, the mannerisms."

He added that Walt Disney Co., the global entertainment company, was aware of the discovery.

Disney's The Muppets a success! More Muppets coming!

From Reuters:

The family-friendly "The Muppets,"  took a solid $42 million.
Dave Hollis, Disney's distribution chief, told TheWrap that he expected "The Muppets" to gross in the upper $30 million range for the five days.
The success, he said, will mean more Muppets across the board.
"The value of 'The Muppets' isn't just about the theatrical run," he said. "It's about how we might take advantage of this across multiple lines of business. This opens the door for us to think about how the Muppets can be showcased in a variety of different ways."
Hollis said "The Muppets" cost about $45 million to make. The moviegoer survey firm CinemaScore rated it an "A." And it took in $29.5 million over three days.

That, Hollis said, is a powerful combination -- especially considering that the studio had estimated the movie would take in somewhere in the upper $20 million range for the three days.
"We needed to make this film to bring these characters back," he said. "It is a bit of a testament to the power of the Walt Disney Company and the power of the characters combined."
He said that now, "you take a property like this, have it permeate in every way possible the social consciousness of people in every medium possible, have a great theatrical opening and then watch it become a meaningful thing for consumers to interact with in a bunch of different ways."

That means merchandise and, perhaps, more movies, he said, noting that the movie's soundtrack is the top soundtrack on iTunes.

"I expect more Muppets everywhere -- and everywhere would theoretically include the movie theater," he said.

Muppets Bloopers & Vintage Walt Disney World: A Muppetational Television Special

These Muppet bloopers where shown during ABC Family last weekend and if you missed them here is your chance again to catch em!

and from this cool read from the "Disney Parks blog", enJoy!...

As we all prepare for Muppet domination this weekend when Disney’s The Muppets draws crowds to theaters, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at another Muppet production that happened right here at Walt Disney World Resort.

In May 1990, “The Muppets at Walt Disney World,” a one-hour television special, had the entire Muppet crew visiting a Florida swamp to meet Kermit’s family. Of course, when the gang figures out that Walt Disney World is just across the swamp, they insist on visiting the vacation kingdom.

The special takes the Muppets all over the Resort including Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa where Miss Piggy checks in for a stay (above), and Fozzie and his Mom take a break for some tea (below).

And while I haven’t seen “The Muppets at Walt Disney World” (though I wish I had, it looks fantastic), I have seen the new Muppet movie. It’s silly, fun, and an overall great time at the movies. So check it out after you’re stuffed yourself silly with turkey – you’ll be glad you did.

Kinect: Disneyland Adventures!

Skeptics are likely to view this Kinect-controlled trip through a virtual version of one of the world’s busiest tourist traps as the ultimate in video game product placement.
It’s basically a big interactive ad that paints an idyllic picture of Walt Disney’s first theme park. Players suffer no hours-long lines as they walk up to meet costumed characters and jump on famous rides, and digital analogs of pricey real-world souvenirs can be purchased with free money found floating in cobblestone streets.

However, if you can get past the overt commercialism, there’s little denying young Disney fans will have a grand time.
The park is authentically detailed and gorgeous to gawk at. From Frontierland to Main Street U.S.A., the game recreates all the renowned locations Disney acolytes know and love. By the time you finish playing you’ll likely feel as though you really did visit and explore the Happiest Place on Earth.
And there’s no shortage of things to do. With more than 100 quests, players will spend hours tracking down costumed characters to obtain their photos and autographs and playing mini-games based on the park’s most popular attractions. Striving for a 100 per cent completion rating – which involves collecting countless character pins and locating scores of secret Mickey icons – will keep kids occupied for weeks, if not months.
The only thing that really hampers the experience is some wonky attractions. Many of the rides we go on – such as It’s a Small World After All, which has kids cranking a boat through the water and learning simple cultural dances – can be a lot of fun. But others – like Peter Pan’s Flight, which sees players struggling against laggy motion controls as they soar through aerial obstacle courses – are exasperating from the outset.
Overall, though, Kinect: Disneyland Adventures should prove a treat for kids still twitterpated by the magic of Mickey. Just be prepared to deal with the occasional frustrations of younger gamers – and their inevitable requests to visit the real park.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING from"TDDF" & Disney and Macy's History!

“In the spirit of full disclosure,” Bill Schermerhorn, Macy’s Creative Director, starts, “I should tell you that I am a card-carrying member of D23.” So begins our discussion with Bill, who for the past 29 years, has been responsible for bringing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to the streets of New York each Thanksgiving. “It’s the job you get once in a lifetime,” he says with a chuckle.
More than 80 years after Macy’s first parade—originally called the Macy’s Christmas Parade and later the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Christmas Parade—the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is known as the “official” kickoff to the holiday season. And with more than 50 million viewers across the country and the more than 3.5 million spectators who line up along the streets of New York City each year, the three-hour spectacle is nothing short of a national icon.

The Muppets OPENS TODAY!!! Muppets in annual "Santa Claus Parade", Swedish Chef on "The Chew" & Whoopi Goldberg on Loving Kermit and Miss Piggy!

It's here! The Muppets OPENS today everywhere! In celebration of the opening heres some MORE Muppet stuff to get you excited...

This past weekend Toronto Canada held there annual "Santa Claus Parade" and the Muppets took center stage in a float in the parade! Take a look!

be sure to watch Kermit, Miss Piggy and The Swedish Chef TODAY on "The Chew" celebrating Thanksgiving and promoting "The Muppets" on ABC at 1pm/EST

There’s nothing like seeing the Muppets in real life, because you’re stunned. You’re stunned by their simplicity. Yes, it’s just a rag with some eyes, but I don’t know anybody who doesn’t just go with it and fully believe they have all the attributes that you think they have.

Any time the Muppets are working, I always tell the puppeteers I want to come and play. I did that recently for the new Muppets film, starring Jason Segel. I have a small cameo in a scene where the Muppets are trying to raise money at the telethon, which will determine if they are able to keep their studio.
I did The Muppet Show once, where Miss Piggy and I sang “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” Harry Winston loaned us something like $900 million in diamonds to do the number. It’s funny singing with them, because they always sound better than you. Piggy can really wail. I also once did a voice-over on Muppet Babies, and I played a cabdriver who sang in one of the movies. I don’t understand why they haven’t brought back The Muppet Show. I think it’s such a disservice, and I’ve said that to the folks at ABC. They look at me like I’m crazy.
When I was doing It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, I felt a special connection to Pepe the King Prawn. To me he’s a shrimp, but he calls himself a prawn. I love his lips. Pepe and I fell deeply and madly in love, and then he had to go home with the man who operates him, because he’s a Muppet, and he lives in Muppetland. When you’re with them, your relationship is as strong to them as it is to human beings. You don’t see the Muppeteer. It’s like when kids are relating to Elmo. Kevin Clash, the man who does his voice, is there, but the kids only see Elmo.
The Muppets have always been in my life. The first Muppet I ever saw was Rowlf the Dog, who was on The Jimmy Dean Show in the 1960s, as the piano player. Then when I was 17 or 18, I baby-sat a little girl who was an actress on Sesame Street. One who I really want to work with is Sweetums. There’s just something good about him. He’s this big old thing, and you know he’s going to look after you. On set, Miss Piggy can be quite the diva. She’s very piggy. Kermit kicks back a lot. He and I once went over and hung out and fished in the swamp. I caught some flies and bugs for him, and he was really appreciative.
My fan base has always been from birth to death, but I think kids are cool with me because they know that I know Elmo and that I know the Muppets. When my granddaughter first saw The Lion King, where I voiced one of the hyenas, I could feel a shift in her body. She tensed up and turned around and said, “You’re not really nice in this, Granny! You’re messing with Simba.” She was pissed, as little kids can get.
But the Muppets are something else. When you act with them, you are right there with them. When you’re sitting around, in between shots, sometimes you make bad jokes. You’re really not supposed to, but you can’t help it, you do. It’s not something you want other people to see or hear, because you never want to be disrespectful to the Muppets. For me, I knew that I had made it in my career when I was in Mad magazine and I got to play with the Muppets. Those are the two things that really mattered. Yes, it’s brilliant to have an Oscar, but if you get to play with the Muppets as much as I have, that’s an amazing thing.

You'll babel to check out Muppet Treasure Island, Muppets From Space, The Muppet Christmas Carol and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? featuring Jim Henson creations, this Thanksgiving, all beginning at 1pm ET!

Jason Segel is balancing a
bowling pin atop his noggin. The jolly actor-screenwriter is perched on the stage of a makeshift Muppet Theater that has been erected inside a mammoth Universal Studios soundstage. He is grimacing nervously while the furry blue daredevil Gonzo the Great winds up his arm in preparation to launch a bowling ball toward Segel for a stunt the pair are filming for "The Muppets."

Segel, who co-wrote the movie with "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" director Nicholas Stoller, is balancing more than just a bowling pin on his head these days: The Walt Disney Co., which acquired The Muppets franchise from The Jim Henson Co. in 2004, has entrusted him with the first big-screen adventure starring the felt-covered performance troupe in 12 years.
"I think at some point, The Muppets changed a little bit," said Segal during a break from filming earlier this year. "Our goal with this movie is to reintroduce The Muppets to kids in a way that is reminiscent of the movies from the late `70s and early `80s. The great thing about those movies and what Pixar does now is they don't pander or condescend to children."
Segel, a hard-core Muppet fan best known for his R-rated roles in such movies as "Knocked Up" and "I Love You, Man," petitioned Disney brass to resurrect The Muppets with Stoller in a way that would appeal to both nostalgic adults who grew up watching "The Muppet Show" and children more familiar with computer-generated 3-D animation than big-eyed puppets.
In the film, out Wednesday, Segel and Amy Adams play a small-town couple named Gary and Mary who, along with Gary's puppet brother Walter (portrayed by Peter Linz), work to reunite The Muppets. It seems the felt ones have found themselves irrelevant in an entertainment landscape dominated by such over-the-top fictional game shows as "Punch Teacher."

The musical's storyline mirrors The Muppets' own reality. They have not starred in a film together since the 2005 made-for-TV movie "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz" and have been absent from theaters since 1999's "The Muppets in Space."
"It's funny that the success of the movie might undo the story itself," said director James Bobin. "That's what actually drew me to the story. I was struck by how honest it was and with real artistic license portrayed how people perceive The Muppets at this time. One of the great emotional drives in any story is getting the band back together."
The new movie finds The Muppets off doing their own thing: Fozzie Bear is languishing in a tribute band called The Moopets, Miss Piggy is sashaying around Paris as a fashion editor, Animal is treating his anger management issues at rehab, Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem are performing in the New York subway and Scooter is working at Google.

The filmmakers, most of whom never have worked with puppets, let alone The Muppets, closely collaborated with the puppeteers who have been portraying these characters for years. One particular meeting with them led Segel and Stoller to axe any self-referential jokes and puns about The Muppets being puppets. "I wonder how that felt," for example, was a goner.
"We're all partners on this movie," said producer Todd Lieberman. "We grew up on The Muppets, but these guys have been living it for 20 years. They know these characters better than any of us possibly could because they've been doing it for 20 years. They know the characters, and they know the style. They know what to do and what not to do for the brand."
Adams, who ran the award show gauntlet this year for her role in "The Fighter," found it more difficult to switch between flashy gowns at night and Mary's conservative ensembles by day during production than working with puppets. She said acting opposite puppets like Walter was not any more difficult than working opposite actors like Mark Wahlberg.

"Once you accept that the puppet that you're working with is an actual character, it really is no different from working with another human actor," said Adams. "The puppeteers are geniuses at disappearing. I don't know how they do it, but they do it. I see Peter and Walter as two completely separate beings. Peter is Peter, and Walter is Walter."
The immersive set design helped, too. For the new Muppet Theater that is supposed to look like it is abandoned until The Muppets give it a makeover, production designer Steve Saklad and his team incorporated the towering theater set built in 1924 for "Phantom of the Opera," which is still standing inside a soundstage on the Universal Studios backlot.
"We were originally going to shoot the parts of the Muppet Theater scenes that face the audience in a historic downtown Los Angeles theater, but it would've been limiting for the director to split everything up," said Saklad. "I think it worked out for the best because now we've got this huge, luscious theater covered in a thousand coats of paint."
Saklad said the new Muppet Theater set was put in storage after production on "The Muppets," just in case it's required for a sequel, and he is hoping that no one paints over the "Phantom of the Opera" walls. However, the prospect of The Muppets as a rejuvenated franchise featuring Segel is one the actor-screenwriter cannot seem to fathom.

"That would certainly be amazing," Segel said sheepishly. "It's not something I'm even thinking about right now. I'm still focused on this movie. My big goal was just to re-establish The Muppets where they belonged. From there, everything else is gravy. I just wanted to see The Muppets again the way I remembered them."
